A BREIF HISTORY OF THE
HAMPTONS FARM ESTATE

Traditionally, Hamptons homes were built on sprawling estates in the American country, in barn style farmhouses. It wasn’t until the late 1900 to early 2000’s, that the wealthy elites started building their beach side holiday mansions. The Hamptons are notorious for being the playground of the rich and famous, but beyond the high society of this seaside community, is an architectural wonderland that designers have been inspired by for generations! Currently, the Hamptons style is one of the most highly sought after designs in Australian real estate. In 2017 I was commissioned to lead a design tour to the Hamptons in America. I escorted 10 of Australia’s top builders, along with the editors of Home Beautiful, House & Garden, Inside Out, Country Style and Grand Designs magazines and the Sydney Morning Herald as well as the lovely Jenn Bishop of Interiors Addict. Experiencing the Hamptons in person gave them a new perspective and a fresh adoration of the style. It was an opportunity to showcase all the classic Hampton styled homes, including designs all the way back to the 1800’s. It was a magnificent adventure both for the builders and the editors to capture why the Hamptons style is so popular and to experience and understand the longevity of the style. The key question that arose from this trip was: how do we take the Hampton’s style and make it our own here in Australia? American summer getaways only last three months of the year, yet Australia’s glorious climate is perfect for open plan living that transitions into indoor/outdoor entertaining year-round.

Returning home from my Hamptons adventure, we had the opportunity to purchase my husband’s 5th generation original homestead built in the 1860s.

His father was born here, so there was a huge amount of sentimentality attached to this property. The initial plan was to fix up the original formhouse and keep it as a weekender for our family.

However, when it was revealed that parts of the original home were in derelict shape, we instead decided to salvage what we could of the original home and to add on two new wings on either side.

Freshly inspired off the back of my Hamptons tour, we knew we wanted to create our very own Hamptons Estate here in WA

Within 11 months, we had fully renovated the original homestead building, and constructed two magnificent wings with wide verandas and an incredible outdoor estate area for entertaining. The project then expanded more to become a showcase home, as well 05 a wedding, event and accomodation venue.

Our Hamptons Farm Estate is now famous in its own right, for its heavenly high ceilings, expansive autdoor living design and the incredible views of the Australian outback, The Hamptons Farm Estate has been featured on Ready Set Reno, Open Homes Australia and also was a finalist for Australia’s Best Home 2021, all available to watch on 9Now.
